The alleged attacks occurred while the accused was transporting female passengers in his vehicle, highlighting growing concerns about vulnerability during what should be routine transportation services.
According to investigators from the Toronto Police Service, the first incident took place on September 23 when a 24-year-old woman ordered a rideshare service around 3 a.m. from the downtown entertainment district. What began as a standard ride turned traumatic when the driver allegedly diverted from the planned route and sexually assaulted the passenger before dropping her at her destination.
“These allegations represent a profound breach of trust,” said Detective Sergeant Maria Harrington in a statement to CO24 News. “Passengers place their safety in the hands of drivers when they enter these vehicles, particularly during vulnerable hours of the night.”
Less than a week later, on September 29, police report that a similar pattern emerged when a 22-year-old woman requested a ride around 2:30 a.m. from the same downtown area. The driver allegedly assaulted this second victim during the journey as well, establishing what investigators describe as a concerning pattern of predatory behavior.
Following an intensive investigation by the Sex Crimes Unit, Toronto resident Nazar Hussain was arrested on October 7. He now faces two counts of sexual assault, with his first court appearance scheduled at the Toronto Regional Bail Centre.
